Plan Nederland

Organization name: Plan Nederland
Website:http://www.plannederland.nl/

Organization:

Plan Nederland was established in 1976 as a national organization of Plan International. Plan works to achieve lasting improvements for children living in poverty in developing countries, through a process that unites people across cultures and adds meaning and value to their lives. To achieve this, Plan works with children, their families, communities, organisations and local governments to implement programmes at grassroots level in health, education, water and sanitation, income generation and cross-cultural communication.

Contribution to GSFP:

Plan Ghana works in 5 out of the 10 regions of Ghana viz. Eastern, Central, Greater Accra, Upper West and Volta Regions. With funding from Plan Nederlands, Plan Ghana’s intervention will start in the Upper West Region (UWR) which is the most deprived among all these regions.  A schoolfeeding pilot program has been initiated in the Sissala West District where most community institutions facilitated by Plan Ghana is already in place for implementation.

Expected Output:

Plan Ghana’s intervention will be that of an integrated approach.  This is because Plan Ghana has programs in most of the activities of the framework in the areas of food production, health, education, income generation, water and sanitation.  There are direct school components in some of these areas such as school gardening and school health education program.  Therefore with the necessary funding from supporting donors, Plan Ghana will facilitate the implementation of the program by mobilizing community human resources to achieve this goal.

Motivation

The school feeding program has a very important role to play if the new educational reform in Ghana is to be successful.  This is because the pilot programs have proven to ensure improved enrolment and attendance in schools.  It is therefore imperative for government, non-governmental organizations, communities and other stakeholders to play their roles effectively to ensure effective implementation of the program.
