NCDO

Organization name: NCDO
Website: www.ncdo.nl

Organization:
NCDO stands for Nationale Commissie voor Internationale Samenwerking en Duurzame Ontwikkeling (National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development).
NCDO involves people in the Netherlands in international cooperation and supports them with information, subsidies and advice. The millennium goals provide the point of reference for all these activities.
NCDO is one of the parties that initiated SIGN and is still involved as a platform member.

Contribution to the GSFP:
“We are contributing to SIGN by giving publicity to its goals. Also we inform citizens who are interested in supporting projects in Ghana about the possibilities of subsidy programmes. An example is the subsidy programme for small local projects (Kleine Plaatselijke Projecten: KPA).

Motivation:
“NCDO wants to reinforce the commitment to realize the Millennium Development Goals, in this case in Ghana. The School Feeding Programme in Ghana is a concrete effort of governments, businesses and citizens and a great example of cooperation between two countries. This is why in our view the initiative deserves a long term support and public attention.”

Past activities

NCDO together with SIGN and Schuttelaar and Partners planned a debate/discussion on 8th December to coincide with the election and results of the Ghanaian election. The essence of the programme was to highlight the democratic process in Ghana and to offer a platform for both the Ghanaian diaspora and the Dutch public to engage in a discussion and to monitor the exit polls. There was a live connection with the Ghanaian media as well.

Current Initiative

NCDO supported the realisation of a qualitative study aimed at understanding the willngness and extent to which the Ghanaian migrant community can or are capable of supporting the GSFP. And secondly to explore mechanisms to develop and enhance current and future contribution to the GSFP. The study was evenutally conducted by the Vrije UNiversiteit of Amsterdam, but NCDO together with PCD realised the study financially and played, together with the SIGN secretariat, a role in the design of the study.  Read full report
